CALL For PAPERS Special Issue on “The psychology of science learning among the students in Asia-Pacific countries” for the journal of The Asia-Pacific Education Researcher (indexed in SSCI)
Results from some international science achievement tests, such as the TIMSS, have repeatedly shown that students from some Asia-Pacific countries outperform those from other continents for the past decades. Given that the enhancement of students’ scientific literacy enormously contributes to the development of modern society, the Asian students’ advantage in science learning deserves more attention to shed light on the improvement of science education for building a better society. However, the international comparative science assessment also has indicated that some Asia countries are among the low performing countries. More research is necessary to explore the possible role of psychological processes in low science achievement in these countries.
The aim of this special issue is to cover various aspects of science learning in Asia-Pacific countries. In recent years, there is a considerable increase in the number and quality of studies on Asia-Pacific students’ science learning. Through empirical evidence, this special issue hopes to highlight the psychology of science learning in light of Asian cultural and contextual backgrounds, and to reflect the current development of science education in Asian-Pacific countries.
This special issue welcomes original ideas, along with empirical validation in the following topics:
Comparative studies on science learning across different countries
Asia-Pacific students’ cognitive and motivational strategies of science learning
Asia-Pacific students’ mental models or conceptual development in science
Asia-Pacific students’ higher-lever thinking and understanding in science
Technology-enhanced science learning
Socio-cultural factors in science learning among Asia-Pacific students
Language and science learning
